Scrapping a truck, SUV or van
Scrap truck prices are worked out the same way as scrap car prices, by weight, and trucks, SUVs and vans simply have more of it. Cash for Scrap Junk Cars NWI buys scrap pickups, SUVs and vans across north Lake County, Indiana, tows them free and pays at pickup.
How are scrap truck prices worked out?
A scrap truck is priced like any scrap vehicle: its weight in tons times the buyer's per-ton rate for whole vehicles, less anything missing. Pickups, SUVs and vans usually weigh more than cars, so they carry more steel and tend to bring more. Check the curb weight, not the GVWR, before comparing quotes.
Weight is the whole reason a scrap truck is its own page. A full-size pickup or a three-row SUV has more steel in it than a compact car, so at the same per-ton rate it’s worth more as scrap. That’s the same logic behind every Cash for Scrap Junk Cars NWI offer, just with a bigger number on the scale.
Curb weight, not the door sticker
If a number on the door-jamb label is marked GVWR, the gross vehicle weight rating, it’s the most the truck may weigh loaded with people and cargo, not the truck itself. Scrap is priced on what the vehicle weighs empty, its curb weight. Our weight guide shows where to find it and turns it into tons.
What changes a truck’s number
Configuration. Cab size, bed length and two-wheel or four-wheel drive all change the curb weight. Look up your exact version.
Things bolted on. Steel bumpers, a headache rack, a tow hitch, steel shelving in a work van: all extra steel. Tell us they’re there.
Things taken off. A pickup without its bed, or a van stripped of its engine, weighs less. See incomplete cars for how missing parts are handled.
Cargo. Scrap is paid on the vehicle, not what’s in it. Empty the bed, the cab and the cargo area before pickup.
Per gross ton hits heavy vehicles harder
On a heavy vehicle, the gross-ton versus net-ton question is worth more money. The unit difference is a percentage, so the more the truck weighs, the bigger the gap in dollars. Ask every buyer which ton they mean. The per-ton guide has a worked example.
Getting it out
Trucks and vans are often parked where they were last used: behind a garage, in a side yard, on a gravel pad. Tell us where it sits and whether it rolls. The tow is free either way, and you’re paid at pickup.

Free towing. Paid at pickup. No title? We can still help. Indiana scrap sales need either the title or a BMV certificate of authority, and we'll work out which one on the call.
Questions
Do you buy full-size pickups and cargo vans?
Yes, light-duty pickups, SUVs and vans. For anything larger than that, ask on the call and we'll tell you straight away whether we can take it.
Should I take the topper, rack or shelving off first?
Only if you want to keep or sell it. Left on, steel racks and shelving add weight. Tell us what's on the vehicle so the offer includes it.
Is the weight on my truck's door sticker its scrap weight?
Check what the number is called. If it says GVWR, that's the most the truck may weigh fully loaded, not what it weighs empty. Scrap is priced on the curb weight, which is lower.
