How to scrap a car in Indiana
To scrap a car in Indiana with Cash for Scrap Junk Cars NWI, you send the car details, hear an offer, agree a pickup, and get paid when the car is towed. The tow is free. It works the same in all eleven towns we cover in north Lake County, and the offer follows the same math as all Northwest Indiana scrap car prices.
What are the steps to scrap a car?
- 1
Send the car details. The model year, the make and model, and the title situation; then your name, phone and pickup address.
- 2
Hear the offer. We call back with a number for the whole car. Tell us what's missing and whether it runs.
- 3
Book the pickup. Same-day pickup is often possible. Clear out your belongings before the truck arrives.
- 4
Get paid at pickup. Hand over the title or other paperwork. We tow the car free.
Getting the car ready
You don't need to drain fluids or take parts off. Recyclers handle the fluids with the right equipment, and pulling parts yourself only lowers the weight. What helps:
- Empty the cab, trunk and glove box. Check for garage remotes and a toll transponder.
- Keys still around? Leave them in the car. Lost? Mention it on the call.
- Clear a path if you can: move the other car, open the gate, unlock the garage.
- Tell us about flat tires, missing wheels or a car that won't roll.
How the offer is worked out
By weight. The car's curb weight in tons, times the per-ton rate for whole cars, less what's missing. The year, make and model you send pin down the weight. The per-ton guide explains gross tons and net tons, and why scrap car prices change covers why a quote has a date on it.
What happens to the car afterwards
It goes into the recycling stream: fluids drained, reusable parts pulled, the shell crushed and shredded, and the steel sold to mills. The scrap car recycling page walks through it.
When you're ready, send the car details.
Questions
Do I need a title to scrap a car in Indiana?
No title? We can still help. Scrapping a car in Indiana takes one of two documents. The first is the title, and a lost one can be replaced at the BMV for $15. The second is a BMV certificate of authority: a $4 application backed by proof you own the car, such as the current registration. State law says a car under 15 model years old can't be sold for scrap without one or the other. Send us what you do have (a bill of sale, the registration, an insurance card) and we'll work out on the call which document fits your car.
How long does it take to scrap a car?
The offer comes on the call back. Pickup is often possible the same day, depending on where the car is and when you send the details.
Do I need to be there at pickup?
You or someone you've named on the call, with the title or other paperwork. Payment happens at pickup.
